What is a PWA?
A Progressive Web App (PWA) is a website that behaves like a native app. PWAs can:
- Work offline or with poor internet connectivity
- Send notifications
- Load quickly and feel like a native app
- Be added to your device’s home screen
Adding a PWA to your Android home screen makes it easy to access your favorite web apps without opening Chrome every time.
How to Add a PWA on Android Chrome
Step 1: Open the website in Chrome
- Launch Chrome on your Android device.
- Navigate to the website or PWA you want to install.
Make sure the website supports PWA installation (look for an install prompt or check

Step 4: Confirm and place the icon
- Tap “Add” or “Add automatically”.
- The PWA will now appear on your home screen like a native app icon.
Step 5: Launch the PWA
- Tap the icon on your home screen to open the PWA.
- It will launch in full-screen mode without the browser interface, giving an app-like experience.
Tips & Notes
- Update automatically: PWAs update in the background when you revisit the website.
- Offline use: Some PWAs allow offline functionality; check if your app supports it.
- Uninstalling: Long-press the icon and remove it, just like any other app.
Adding PWAs to your home screen makes web apps faster, easier to use, and more convenient, bridging the gap between web and native apps.
